SNB not planning to introduce digital Swiss franc, vice chair says
BY Reuters | ECONOMIC | 03:34 AM EDTZURICH, June 24 (Reuters) - The Swiss National Bank is not planning to introduce a digital Swiss franc, SNB Vice Chairman Antoine Martin said on Wednesday, a day after the European Central Bank secured key parliamentary backing for the launch of a digital euro.
"We're not planning, as this national bank, to produce a retail CBDC (central bank digital currency), a digital Swiss franc," Martin said at the Point Zero Forum in Zurich.
The digital euro is an electronic means of payments aimed at making the euro zone less reliant on U.S. credit cards at a time of fraying transatlantic relationships.
