05:30 AM EDT, 09/16/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The Senate on Monday confirmed Stephen Miran to the Federal Reserve Board in a tight 48-47 vote, multiple media outlets reported Tuesday.

Miran will serve the remaining months of former Fed Governor Adriana Kugler's term, which ends in January. Kugler resigned in August to resume her academic role at Georgetown University, the reports said.

Miran's confirmation comes just ahead of the Fed's two-day policy meeting, which concludes Wednesday and is expected to result in an interest rate cut, according to the reports.

The reports added that if sworn in before the meeting ends, Miran could participate in the decision.

Additionally, Trump has attempted to fire Fed Governor Lisa Cook over disputed mortgage fraud allegations, though a judge has temporarily blocked the move pending legal proceedings, media outlets reported.

In general the bond market is volatile, and fixed income securities carry interest rate risk. (As interest rates rise, bond prices usually fall, and vice versa. This effect is usually more pronounced for longer-term securities.) Fixed income securities also carry inflation risk and credit and default risks for both issuers and counterparties. Unlike individual bonds, most bond funds do not have a maturity date, so avoiding losses caused by price volatility by holding them until maturity is not possible.

Lower-quality debt securities generally offer higher yields, but also involve greater risk of default or price changes due to potential changes in the credit quality of the issuer. Any fixed income security sold or redeemed prior to maturity may be subject to loss.
