Rosenberg Says Bank of Canada Shouldn't Stay on The Sidelines

11:22 AM EDT, 09/15/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The United States Federal Reserve and the Bank of Canada policy meetings are scheduled for this Wednesday, said Rosenberg Research.

The BoC is tougher to gauge since it doesn't typically spend as much time as the Federal Reserve trying to tilt the markets verbally in a certain direction at any given moment of time -- though futures are priced 100% of the way for a 25bps rate cut, noted Rosenberg Research.

No different now, but Rosenberg thinks that given the clear evidence of widening slack in the labor market and an economy that is completely flat so far this year, that the BoC would basically be absolutely tone deaf if it remained on the sidelines for much longer.

Especially with the inflationary tariff threat having been dramatically reduced.

Markets will know more on Tuesday with the release of the August consumer price index data, the day before Governor Tiff Macklem and his crew of senior officials make up their minds, added Rosenberg.

In general the bond market is volatile, and fixed income securities carry interest rate risk. (As interest rates rise, bond prices usually fall, and vice versa. This effect is usually more pronounced for longer-term securities.) Fixed income securities also carry inflation risk and credit and default risks for both issuers and counterparties. Unlike individual bonds, most bond funds do not have a maturity date, so avoiding losses caused by price volatility by holding them until maturity is not possible.

Lower-quality debt securities generally offer higher yields, but also involve greater risk of default or price changes due to potential changes in the credit quality of the issuer. Any fixed income security sold or redeemed prior to maturity may be subject to loss.
