Brazil loan growth slows in April
BY Reuters | ECONOMIC | 08:09 AM EDTBRASILIA, May 28 (Reuters) - Outstanding loans in Brazil were up 9.3% in the 12 months through April, central bank data showed on Thursday, slowing from the 9.8% expansion registered in the previous month.
* Stock of loans rose 0.3% from March to 7.2 trillion reais ($1.42 trillion).
* Lending to firms fell 0.1% month-on-month, while credit to households increased 0.6%.
* The delinquency rate for non-earmarked credit reached 5.8%, up from 5.7% the month before.
* The central bank said earlier this week that the slowdown in credit growth is consistent with moderating economic activity.
* Policymakers have cut interest rates by 25 basis points at each of their last two meetings, bringing the benchmark Selic rate to 14.5%. ($1 = 5.0590 reais) (Reporting by Marcela Ayres; Editing by Vijay Kishore)
