March ADP US Private Payrolls Rise More Than Expected Ahead of BLS Data

08:35 AM EDT, 04/01/2026 (MT Newswires) -- ADP's monthly measure of private payrolls showed a 62,000 increase in March, well above expectations compiled by Bloomberg for an increase of 40,000.

The March gain followed an upwardly revised 66,000 increase in February.

By sector, goods-producing jobs rose by 30,000, led by a 30,000 increase in construction jobs, while service-providing jobs were up 32,000, with education and health services jobs up 58,000, information sector jobs up 16,000 and leisure and hospitality jobs up 7,000. Trade, transportation, and utilities jobs decreased by 58,000.

Pay growth for job-changers accelerated to 6.6% year-over-year, while pay growth for job-stayers was unchanged for the third consecutive month.

"Overall hiring is steady, but job growth continues to favor certain industries, including health care," said Nela Richardson, chief economist at ADP, adding that strong performance was supported by higher pay increases for job changers.

In general the bond market is volatile, and fixed income securities carry interest rate risk. (As interest rates rise, bond prices usually fall, and vice versa. This effect is usually more pronounced for longer-term securities.) Fixed income securities also carry inflation risk and credit and default risks for both issuers and counterparties. Unlike individual bonds, most bond funds do not have a maturity date, so avoiding losses caused by price volatility by holding them until maturity is not possible.

Lower-quality debt securities generally offer higher yields, but also involve greater risk of default or price changes due to potential changes in the credit quality of the issuer. Any fixed income security sold or redeemed prior to maturity may be subject to loss.
