Scotiabank Previews This Week's International Merchandise Trade Data in Canada
BY MT Newswires | ECONOMIC | 12:27 PM EDT12:27 PM EDT, 03/31/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Canada will release its international merchandise trade figures for February on Thursday, said Scotiabank.
These figures will further inform the bank's tracking of quarterly expenditure-based gross domestic product as opposed to monthly income-based GDP.
With trade figures up to January, it looks like a sharp drop in export and import volumes is being tracked as a reversal of solid export gains over H2 2025, stated Scotiabank. Connected to this will be the bank's expectation that the drag on GDP growth from inventory depletion in Q4 will reverse toward being a somewhat positive addition in Q1.
