February US Median Inflation Expectations Slowed for Short Term, Unchanged for Medium Term, According to NY Fed Survey
BY MT Newswires | ECONOMIC | 03/09/26 11:17 AM EDT11:17 AM EDT, 03/09/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer expectations for one-year US inflation growth slowed to a 3% gain in February from a 3.1% gain in the previous month, according to a survey released by the New York Federal Reserve Bank on Monday.
The median inflation expectations were unchanged from a 3.0% gain for the three-year period and for five years ahead.
The median inflation uncertainty slowed to 3% from 3.3% in the one-year horizon and slowed to 2.9% from 3.3% for the three-year outlook.
Median home price change expectations accelerated to 3% from 2.9% while home price uncertainty slowed to a 3.7% increase from a 4.0% increase in the previous month.
The median one-year expectations commodity prices growth slowed for food, medical care, rent and gold but rose for gas and cost of college education.
Earnings growth expectations fell from January but so did the expectations of losing a job. Expectations for finding a job also decreased though expectations for higher unemployment also declined.
