US Dollar Mixed Early Friday Ahead of Producer Prices, Chicago Purchasing Managers' Index, Construction Data
BY MT Newswires | ECONOMIC | 02/27/26 07:35 AM EST07:35 AM EST, 02/27/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US dollar was mixed against its major trading partners early Friday -- up versus the euro and pound, down versus the yen and Canadian dollar -- ahead of the release of producer price index data for January at 8:30 am ET, the Chicago purchasing managers' index for February at 9:45 am ET and construction spending for December at 10:00 am ET.
The Kansas City Federal Reserve's services reading for February is due to be released at 11:00 am ET and the St. Louis and Atlanta Fed banks are due to update their Q1 gross domestic product Nowcast estimates around midday.
A quick summary of foreign exchange activity heading into Friday:
EUR/USD fell to 1.1799 from 1.1802 at the Thursday US close and 1.1803 at the same time Thursday morning. There are no Eurozone data on Friday's schedule. The next European Central Bank meeting is scheduled for March 19.
GBP/USD fell to 1.3473 from 1.3492 at the Thursday US close and 1.3539 at the same time Thursday morning. There are no UK data on Friday's schedule, but European Central Bank policy board member Huw Pill is due to speak at 8:00 am ET. The next Bank of England meeting is scheduled for March 19.
USD/JPY fell to 155.9211 from 156.1081 at the Thursday US close and 156.0421 at the same time Thursday morning. Tokyo's consumer price index excluding food and energy, an early indicator of Japanese core consumer prices, rebounded in February after a decline in the previous month. Also released overnight, Japanese sales at large retailers jumped in January, but Japanese housing starts declined in the same month, while industrial production fell in February. The next Bank of Japan meeting is scheduled for March 18-19.
USD/CAD fell to 1.3671 from 1.3680 at the Thursday US close and 1.3685 at same time Thursday morning. Canadian GDP data for January and Q4 are due to be released at 8:30 am ET, followed by the Canadian Treasury budget balance at 11:00 am ET. The next Bank of Canada meeting is scheduled for March 18.
