Update: JPMorgan Chase Fined $14.3 Million by European Central Bank for Alleged Misreporting of Capital Requirements

JPMorgan Chase (JPM) has been sanctioned by the European Central Bank with two administrative fines totaling about 12.2 million euros ($14.3 million) for allegedly misreporting risk-weighted assets between 2019 and 2024, the central bank said Thursday.

According to the central bank, JPMorgan (JPM) violated reporting rules on credit risk and credit valuation adjustment risk by wrongfully applying lower risk-weight scores to corporate exposures and excluding certain transactions in the calculations.

JPMorgan (JPM) "committed both breaches with serious negligence, driven by evident deficiencies in its internal processes," the central bank said.

JPMorgan (JPM) has the opportunity to challenge the decision in the EU's Court of Justice, according to the statement.

In an emailed statement to MT Newswires, JPMorgan (JPM) acknowledged the penalty issued by the central bank. The company has "proactively identified and self-reported the issues, which have now been fully remediated," a JPMorgan (JPM) spokesperson said.
