Sector Update: Financial Stocks Advance Late Afternoon
BY MT Newswires | TREASURY | 03:47 PM EST03:47 PM EST, 02/04/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Financial stocks were rising in Wednesday late afternoon trading, with the NYSE Financial Index and the State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLF) each adding 1%.
The Philadelphia Housing Index climbed 2.8%, and the State Street Real Estate Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLRE) rose 1.7%.
Bitcoin (BTC-USD) was falling 2.7% to $73,643, and the yield for 10-year US Treasuries was slightly higher at 4.28%.
In economic news, ADP's monthly measure of private payrolls expanded by 22,000 in January, below expectations for a gain of 45,000 in a Bloomberg survey.
The Institute for Supply Management's US services index was unchanged at 53.8 in January, compared with expectations for a decline to 53.5 in a Bloomberg poll.
The S&P Global US services index was revised higher to 52.7 in January from the 52.5 flash reading, versus expectations for no revision in a Bloomberg survey.
In corporate news, Aon's (AON) US investment subsidiary agreed to pay $15 million to settle a class-action lawsuit claiming that calculation mistakes and risky investment advice caused Pennsylvania public school teachers to make extra contributions to their pension fund, Bloomberg reported, citing a federal court filing in Philadelphia. Aon shares rose 1.6%.
