Scotiabank Sees Bank of Canada in "All Talk, No Action" on Wednesday
BY MT Newswires | ECONOMIC | 01/28/26 08:18 AM EST08:18 AM EST, 01/28/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The Bank of Canada will publish its policy decision on Wednesday, said Scotiabank.
No policy changes are expected, noted the bank. The numbers and verbal guidance may inform the bias going forward, but Scotiabank isn't expecting much.
The statement lands at 9:45 a.m. ET along with Governor Tiff Macklem's written opening remarks to his press conference and the Monetary Policy Report that includes full forecast updates, pointed out the bank. Macklem and Senior Deputy Governor Carolyn Rogers will deliver a press conference at 10:30 a.m. ET.
Markets are priced for absolutely nothing to be done until at least the end of the year, stated Scotiabank. The only pricing that matters is near-term in the bank's opinion, as markets lack much foresight to be able to see beyond.
