Sector Update: Financial Stocks Advance Wednesday Afternoon

01:46 PM EST, 01/21/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Financial stocks rose Wednesday afternoon trading, with the NYSE Financial Index and the State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLF) each adding about 0.4%.

The Philadelphia Housing Index was climbing 1.1%, and the State Street Real Estate Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLRE) was decreasing 0.2%.

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) was declining 0.5% to $87,866, and the yield for 10-year US Treasuries was shedding 2 basis points to 4.28%.

In corporate news, Charles Schwab's (SCHW) Q4 results fell short of market expectations even as the financial services provider added more than 1 million brokerage accounts for the fifth quarter in a row. Its shares were rising 1%.

JPMorgan Chase (JPM) is set to receive $90 million for advising Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) amid a bidding war between Netflix (NFLX) and Paramount Skydance (PSKY) to buy Warner, Reuters reported. Separately, JPMorgan (JPM) CEO Jamie Dimon said Wednesday in Davos that the 10% cap on credit card interest rates proposed by President Donald Trump would be an "economic disaster," according to media reports. JPMorgan (JPM) shares added 0.1%.

Brookfield Asset Management (BAM) has signed a long-term strategic cooperation agreement with Azerbaijan's SOFAZ worth up to $1.4 billion, the sovereign wealth fund said Wednesday. Brookfield shares rose 0.2%.
