October US Construction Spending Rises More Than Expected, Residential Building Jumps on Remodeling

10:10 AM EST, 01/21/2026 (MT Newswires) -- US construction spending rose by 0.5% in October, compared with a 0.1% increase expected in a survey compiled by Bloomberg and following a 0.6% decrease in September.

Private residential construction rose by 1.3%, with single-family home construction down 1.3% and multi-family construction down 0.2%.

Remodeling activity rose by 4.5%, accounting for the gain in both private residential construction and overall construction. Excluding remodeling activity, overall construction would have been down 0.4%.

Private nonresidential construction fell by 0.2%, while public construction rose by 0.1%
