Jan 15 (Reuters) - Kansas City Fed President Jeff Schmid on Thursday joined a near-unanimous chorus of ?his colleagues in offering support for ?Fed Chair Jerome Powell after ?he disclosed on Sunday ?a ?threatened indictment from the Trump administration and ?named it ?a pretext for pressuring the central bank ?to lower interest ?rates.

"I ?can't believe I didn't get a couple of questions ?about Chair Powell," Schmid said at the end of a question-and-answer session following a speech to the ?Economic ?Club of Kansas City. "I believe in my DNA ?that an independent central bank is very important to the nature of managing this amazing economy. But if you need ?resources, if you'd like more specifics, please reach out." In general the bond market is volatile, and fixed income securities carry interest rate risk. (As interest rates rise, bond prices usually fall, and vice versa. This effect is usually more pronounced for longer-term securities.) Fixed income securities also carry inflation risk and credit and default risks for both issuers and counterparties. Unlike individual bonds, most bond funds do not have a maturity date, so avoiding losses caused by price volatility by holding them until maturity is not possible.

Lower-quality debt securities generally offer higher yields, but also involve greater risk of default or price changes due to potential changes in the credit quality of the issuer. Any fixed income security sold or redeemed prior to maturity may be subject to loss.
