Brazil posts primary deficit of 0.48% of GDP in 2025, minister says
BY Reuters | ECONOMIC | 10:08 AM ESTBRASILIA, Jan 13 (Reuters) - Brazil's central government ended 2025 with a primary deficit equivalent to ?0.48% of gross domestic product (GDP), ?Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said ?on Tuesday, citing a ?figure ?that includes court-ordered payments.
Excluding those ?payments, which ?Brazil's fiscal framework allows to be set aside ?when ?assessing ?compliance with the government's zero-deficit target for last year, the ?primary shortfall narrowed to 0.1% of GDP, Haddad said.
Brazil's fiscal target allows for a ?tolerance ?band of 0.25 percentage points on either side ?of the goal, meaning the result met the requirement. The Treasury is expected to formally release the final ?figures by the end of the month. (Reporting by Marcela Ayres; ?Editing by Gabriel Araujo)
