BY MT Newswires | ECONOMIC | 01/12/26 02:03 PM EST02:03 PM EST, 01/12/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US Consumer Price Index is expected to rise by 0.3% in December according to a survey compiled by Bloomberg, while the year-over-year rate is forecast to remain at 2.7%.
The CPI data are scheduled to be released at 8:30 am ET Tuesday.
The same survey looks for a 0.3% gain in core CPI, excluding the volatile food and energy components. The year-over-year rate is expected to accelerate to 2.7% from 2.6%.
Monthly percent changes for November overall and core CPI were not available due to a lack of data in October.
Prices in the owners' equivalent rents and regular rents categories are forecast to continue their modest trend of increases, though at a slower pace than a year ago. Those two categories combine for nearly one-third of overall CPI and a key focus for the Federal Reserve.
New vehicle prices and used vehicle prices are expected to increase at the same pace as in November, when there were 0.2% and 0.3% gains, respectively.
