PARIS, Jan 12 (Reuters) - Bank of France Governor Francois Villeroy de Galhau offered on Monday his ?support to his embattled U.S. counterpart ?Jerome Powell, describing the ?head of the U.S. ?Federal Reserve ?as a "model of integrity".

The Trump ?administration has ?piled pressure on Powell, threatening to indict him ?over comment ?to ?Congress about a building renovation project, the latest development in ?a long-running effort Trump to push the Fed to dramatically lower rates.

"Regarding the Fed, I want to ?reiterate ?loudly and clearly my full solidarity and my ?admiration for Jay Powell, a model of integrity and commitment to the public interest," Villeroy said in a New ?Year's address to the French financial sector. In general the bond market is volatile, and fixed income securities carry interest rate risk. (As interest rates rise, bond prices usually fall, and vice versa. This effect is usually more pronounced for longer-term securities.) Fixed income securities also carry inflation risk and credit and default risks for both issuers and counterparties. Unlike individual bonds, most bond funds do not have a maturity date, so avoiding losses caused by price volatility by holding them until maturity is not possible.

Lower-quality debt securities generally offer higher yields, but also involve greater risk of default or price changes due to potential changes in the credit quality of the issuer. Any fixed income security sold or redeemed prior to maturity may be subject to loss.
