01:31 PM EST, 01/02/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Financial stocks were softer in Friday afternoon trading, with the NYSE Financial Index fractionally lower and the State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLF) decreasing 0.3%.

The Philadelphia Housing Index was rising 0.9%, and the State Street Real Estate Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLRE) was down 0.2%.

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) was increasing 1.9% to $90,423, and the yield for 10-year US Treasuries was rising 2 basis points to 4.18%.

In economic news, the S&P Global US manufacturing index for December was unrevised from the flash reading of 51.8, as expected in a survey compiled by Bloomberg.

In corporate news, Berkshire Hathaway (BRK/A) (BRK.A, BRK.B) said Friday it has completed its acquisition of OxyChem from Occidental (OXY) for $9.7 billion. Berkshire Hathaway Class A shares fell 1.8%, and its Class B shares shed 1.7%.
