European Equities Rise in Friday Trading; December Eurozone Manufacturing PMI Declines

12:24 PM EST, 01/02/2026 (MT Newswires) -- European stock markets closed higher in Friday trading as the Stoxx Europe gained 0.6%, Germany's DAX was up 0.1%, the FTSE 100 advanced 0.2%, France's CAC rose 0.6%, and the Swiss Market Index increased 0.2%.

UK's FTSE 100 index on Friday briefly exceeded 10,000 points for the first time before paring gains, CNBC reported.

In economic news, the HCOB Eurozone Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index, compiled by S&P Global, decreased to 48.8 in December from 49.6 in November. The index measures overall health of the eurozone manufacturing sector.

In corporate news, Tesla's registrations dropped sharply in parts of Europe in December, according to industry data.

In France, registrations fell by 66% to 1,942 vehicles, data from French auto industry group PFA showed. Full-year Tesla registrations in France were down 37%, PFA said.

In Sweden, Tesla registrations fell 71% to 821 vehicles in December, according to data from Mobility Sweden.

CNH Industrial said Friday it has appointed Carlo Materazzo as its chief manufacturing officer and Britton Worthen as chief legal and compliance officer.
