US Initial Jobless Claims Decline to Three-Year Low in Week Ended Nov. 29
BY MT Newswires | ECONOMIC | 12/04/25 08:39 AM EST08:39 AM EST, 12/04/2025 (MT Newswires) -- US initial jobless claims fell to a level of 191,000 in the week ended Nov. 29 from an upwardly revised 218,000 level in the previous week, compared with expectations for an increase to 220,000 in survey of analysts compiled by Bloomberg as of 7:35 am ET.
The level of initial claims was the lowest since the week ended Sept. 24, 2022, when it was 189,000.
The four-week moving average decreased by 9,500 to 214,750 after falling by 500 to a level of 224,250 in the previous week, hitting its lowest point since the week ended Jan. 25, 2025.
Insured jobless claims declined by 4,000 to 1,939,000 in the week ended Nov. 22.
The weekly initial jobless claims data released by the US Labor Department measures filings for unemployment insurance benefits. Initial filings are reported through the previous Saturday, while those already on benefits are measured with a one-week lag.
A decrease in claims suggests a stronger labor market, a positive for the US economy and stocks, but a negative for bonds as it suggests wage growth that could lead to inflation.
