Chile economic activity tops forecasts with 2.2% rise in October
BY Reuters | ECONOMIC | 12/01/25 07:05 AM ESTSANTIAGO, Dec 1 (Reuters) - Chile's economic activity rose 2.2% in October when compared to a year earlier, central bank data showed on Monday, landing slightly above market forecasts as economists polled by Reuters expected a 2.0% expansion.
It was the sixteenth consecutive month of expansion on a yearly basis, boosted mainly by growth in trade and services, according to the monetary authority.
Trade activity increased by 8.1% year-on-year, with all components showing positive results, while the services sector posted a 3.5% expansion.
The gains helped offset a 1.6% decline in mining activity, which was hit by lower copper output in the world's largest producer of the metal.
The IMACEC index, which accounts for about 90% of the Andean country's gross domestic product, posted a 0.7% increase on a monthly basis, the central bank added. (Reporting by Aida Pelaez-Fernandez and Natalia Ramos; Editing by Toby Chopra and Gabriel Araujo)
