Angola's Central Bank Cuts Policy Rate by 50bps to 18.50% on Lower Inflation

11:34 AM EST, 11/18/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Angola's central bank (BNA) Tuesday said its Monetary Policy Committee decided to reduce its policy rate by 50bps to 18.50% on lower inflation.

The central bank also cut the interest rate of the Permanent Liquidity Provision Facility to 19.50% from 20.0% and reduced the interest rate of the Permanent Liquidity Absorption Facility to 16.5% versus 17.0%.

The reduction in policy interest rates is justified, on the one hand, by the favorable evolution of the main macroeconomic indicators, especially the consistent slowdown in inflation, and, on the other hand, by an assessment of monetary indicators that signal lower inflationary pressures in the short term, wrote BNA in its policy statement.

In general the bond market is volatile, and fixed income securities carry interest rate risk. (As interest rates rise, bond prices usually fall, and vice versa. This effect is usually more pronounced for longer-term securities.) Fixed income securities also carry inflation risk and credit and default risks for both issuers and counterparties. Unlike individual bonds, most bond funds do not have a maturity date, so avoiding losses caused by price volatility by holding them until maturity is not possible.

Lower-quality debt securities generally offer higher yields, but also involve greater risk of default or price changes due to potential changes in the credit quality of the issuer. Any fixed income security sold or redeemed prior to maturity may be subject to loss.
