BMO on The Day Ahead in Canada

07:20 AM EST, 11/12/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Canada will release building permits for September at 8:30 a.m. ET on Wednesday, said Bank of Montreal (BMO).

Building permits are expected to step up in September, retracing some of the previous month's dip, noted the bank.

The Bank of Canada will release its Summary of Deliberations for its Oct. 29 meeting at 1:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday. BMO expects it to reflect policymakers' shift to a more neutral bias following back-to-back 25 bps rate cuts.

The BoC believes it's providing a modest amount of stimulus, with the federal government adding a helping hand -- a decent chunk of the budget measures were previously announced and would have been incorporated into the October Monetary Policy Report forecast -- stated the bank. That leaves economic risks skewed to the downside, although sticky inflation is driving caution.

BMO will be looking for any insights on indicators the BoC will be watching that could drive further easing.

Despite the risk-on sentiment on Wednesday, the US dollar (USD) index has strengthened 0.2% while the Canadian dollar (CAD or loonie) is little changed at $1.402 (71.3 cents US), according to the bank.

In general the bond market is volatile, and fixed income securities carry interest rate risk. (As interest rates rise, bond prices usually fall, and vice versa. This effect is usually more pronounced for longer-term securities.) Fixed income securities also carry inflation risk and credit and default risks for both issuers and counterparties. Unlike individual bonds, most bond funds do not have a maturity date, so avoiding losses caused by price volatility by holding them until maturity is not possible.

Lower-quality debt securities generally offer higher yields, but also involve greater risk of default or price changes due to potential changes in the credit quality of the issuer. Any fixed income security sold or redeemed prior to maturity may be subject to loss.
