Scotiabank Says August Payrolls Offer Limited Insight Ahead of Key Jobs Report Next Week

08:16 AM EDT, 10/30/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Canada will release the August payrolls (SEPH) at 8:30 a.m. ET on Thursday, said Scotiabank.

The bank noted investors will get the Labour Force Survey (LFS) for October on Nov. 7.

Canadian payrolls lag the more important LFS by two months, pointed out Scotiabank.

SEPH payrolls are "not harder" data, which is a common misconception, stated the bank. They are strongly revised every month.

In addition, because they exclude off-payroll employers by definition, they provide a highly incomplete picture of the job market compared with the LFS report.

Scotiabank forecasts payback in next week's LFS with jobs down 25,000 after the large positive surprise in September.

In general the bond market is volatile, and fixed income securities carry interest rate risk. (As interest rates rise, bond prices usually fall, and vice versa. This effect is usually more pronounced for longer-term securities.) Fixed income securities also carry inflation risk and credit and default risks for both issuers and counterparties. Unlike individual bonds, most bond funds do not have a maturity date, so avoiding losses caused by price volatility by holding them until maturity is not possible.

Lower-quality debt securities generally offer higher yields, but also involve greater risk of default or price changes due to potential changes in the credit quality of the issuer. Any fixed income security sold or redeemed prior to maturity may be subject to loss.
