BY MT Newswires | ECONOMIC | 10/22/25 02:47 PM EDT02:47 PM EDT, 10/22/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The National Association of Realtors' measure of US existing-home sales is expected to accelerate to a 4.06 million annual rate in September, based on a survey compiled by Bloomberg, after falling by 0.2% to a 4.00 million rate in August.
Existing-home sales were at a 3.90 million rate in September 2024, so the year-over-year change would be positive.
The data are scheduled to be released at 10:00 am ET Thursday.
The pending home sales index, also produced by the NAR, jumped by 4% in August and were up 3.8% from year ago. That measure is taken at contract signing and is meant to foreshadow movements in existing homes closings a month or two out.
The median sales price was 2% above its year-ago level in August.
Recent mortgage application data from the Mortgage Bankers Association indicated that mortgage rates declined in most weeks of September.
The National Association of Home Builders reported on Oct. 16 that builder sentiment jumped in October due to lower mortgage rates but was unchanged in September.
