03:29 PM EDT, 10/21/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Financial stocks were mixed in late Tuesday afternoon trading with the NYSE Financial Index easing 0.1% and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) up 0.1%.

The Philadelphia Housing Index climbed 1.9%, and the Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE) shed 0.4%.

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) rose 1.3% to $112,003, and the yield for 10-year US Treasuries shed 2.3 basis points to 3.96%.

In economic news, the current US federal government shutdown is the 15th since 1981 and is tied for the second-longest in US history as the political stalemate entered its 21st day, USA Today reported. No votes are scheduled on Capitol Hill on Tuesday.

In corporate news, PayPal (PYPL) will raise its stake in German e-commerce firm Shopware to 41% from 11% after striking a deal to take a stake from a Carlyle (CG) fund, Bloomberg reported. PayPal (PYPL) shares added 1%, and Carlyle was little changed.

In general the bond market is volatile, and fixed income securities carry interest rate risk. (As interest rates rise, bond prices usually fall, and vice versa. This effect is usually more pronounced for longer-term securities.) Fixed income securities also carry inflation risk and credit and default risks for both issuers and counterparties. Unlike individual bonds, most bond funds do not have a maturity date, so avoiding losses caused by price volatility by holding them until maturity is not possible.

Lower-quality debt securities generally offer higher yields, but also involve greater risk of default or price changes due to potential changes in the credit quality of the issuer. Any fixed income security sold or redeemed prior to maturity may be subject to loss.
