03:24 PM EDT, 10/17/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Financial stocks were advancing in late Friday afternoon trading, with the NYSE Financial Index up 0.8% and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) adding 1.1%.

The Philadelphia Housing Index was up 0.3%, while the Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE) rose 0.7%.

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) was declining 1.2% to $106,714, and the yield for 10-year US Treasuries rose 2.5 basis points to nearly 4%.

In corporate news, Eastern Bankshares (EBC) shares jumped past 5% after Reuters reported that the company is being asked to explore a potential sale by activist investor HoldCo Asset Management.
