Market Chatter: Federal Government to Recall Some Furloughed Workers to Publish September CPI
BY MT Newswires | ECONOMIC | 10/10/25 06:38 AM EDT06:38 AM EDT, 10/10/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Some Bureau of Labor Statistics workers will called back from furlough amid the ongoing federal government shutdown to publish the official consumer inflation report for September, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday, citing an administration official.
The move would allow the government to calculate Social Security payments, which are related to inflation data, according to the report.
Originally scheduled for an Oct. 15 release, the consumer price index report for last month will now be published sometime this month, the official reportedly said.
The US Department of Labor didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
