Sector Update: Financial Stocks Lower Late Afternoon

03:57 PM EDT, 09/22/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Financial stocks edged lower in late Monday afternoon trading, with the NYSE Financial Index easing 0.1% and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) down 0.2%.

The Philadelphia Housing Index fell 1.4%, while the Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE) rose 0.3%.

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) declined 2.3% to $112,653, and the yield for 10-year US Treasuries was little changed at 4.14%.

In corporate news, Apollo Global Management (APO) decided not to bid for Costa Coffee, Sky News reported. Apollo shares were down 0.7%.

Compass (COMP) shares dropped past 16% after the company said it has struck an all-stock merger agreement with Anywhere Real Estate (HOUS) . Anywhere shares surged 47%.

Brighthouse Financial (BHF) fell 3.5% after investor Greenlight Capital sent a letter to the insurance company's board urging it to move forward with a reported takeover offer from Aquarian.

Axos Financial's (AX) Axos Bank said it has agreed to acquire equipment leasing firm, Verdant Commercial Capital, for a projected initial purchase price of $43.5 million. Axos shares were down 0.9%.
