Sector Update: Financial Stocks Softer Monday Afternoon

01:54 PM EDT, 09/22/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Financial stocks fell in Monday afternoon trading with the NYSE Financial Index easing 0.1% and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) dropping 0.2%.

The Philadelphia Housing Index dropped 1.5%, and the Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE) rose 0.3%.

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) declined 2.5% to $112,416, and the yield for 10-year US Treasuries was little changed at 4.14%.

In corporate news, Brighthouse Financial (BHF) stock fell 2.6% after shareholder Greenlight Capital sent a letter to the insurance company's board urging it to move forward with a reported takeover offer from Aquarian Holdings.

PayPal (PYPL) received a letter from the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party seeking assurances that its integration with Tencent's Tenpay Global comply with US anti-money laundering regulations. PayPal (PYPL) shares declined 1.1%.

BBVA (BBVA) raised its all-stock offer to buy Banco Sabadell by 10%, valuing the deal at 17 billion euros ($20 billion). BBVA shares fell 2.5%.
