07:18 AM EDT, 09/22/2025 (MT Newswires) -- US equity investors will focus primarily on the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge, quarterly economic growth data, and speeches from key central bank officials this week.

* The highlight this week is the Fed's preferred inflation measure, the personal consumption expenditures, or PCE, price index slated for Friday. A 0.2% uptick is expected for the core PCE price index for August, according to estimates compiled by Bloomberg.

* Also on this week's docket is the third and final estimate for Q2 gross domestic product, with forecasters expecting no change from a 3.3% growth in the last report.

* Other economic data scheduled for release this week include the new home sales bulletin, the durable goods orders report, and the international trade in goods bulletin.

* Investors will get a chance to hear more on the Fed's decision to cut interest rates for the first time since December from a deluge of Fed speakers this week, including Chair Jerome Powell.

* Last Wednesday, the Federal Open Market Committee moved to lower the federal funds rate by 25 basis points to a range of 4% to 4.25%.

* On the earnings front, Costco (COST) and Accenture (ACN) are expected to release their quarterly reports Thursday.

In general the bond market is volatile, and fixed income securities carry interest rate risk. (As interest rates rise, bond prices usually fall, and vice versa. This effect is usually more pronounced for longer-term securities.) Fixed income securities also carry inflation risk and credit and default risks for both issuers and counterparties. Unlike individual bonds, most bond funds do not have a maturity date, so avoiding losses caused by price volatility by holding them until maturity is not possible.

Lower-quality debt securities generally offer higher yields, but also involve greater risk of default or price changes due to potential changes in the credit quality of the issuer. Any fixed income security sold or redeemed prior to maturity may be subject to loss.
