Sector Update: Financial Stocks Advance Tuesday Afternoon
BY MT Newswires | TREASURY | 09/09/25 01:59 PM EDT01:59 PM EDT, 09/09/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Financial stocks were rising in Tuesday afternoon trading, with the NYSE Financial Index up 0.2% and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) ahead 0.4%.
The Philadelphia Housing Index was falling 2.9%, and the Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE) was shedding 0.2%.
Bitcoin (BTC-USD) was declining 0.8% to $111,164, and the yield for 10-year US Treasuries was up nearly 3 basis points at 4.07%.
In economic news, the Bureau of Labor Statistics' preliminary estimate of its benchmark revision to nonfarm payrolls is for a downward revision of 911,000 jobs, or 0.6% of total employment, the BLS said Tuesday. The BLS said the absolute average revision over the last 10 years is 0.2%. The final annual revision will be incorporated into payrolls in February 2026 with the release of data for January.
In corporate news, Nasdaq (NDAQ) is set to invest $50 million in cryptocurrency exchange Gemini Space Station through a private placement as part of a partnership between the companies, Reuters reported. Nasdaq shares rose 0.2%.
