August ADP US Private Payrolls Rise Less Than Expected Ahead of BLS Data
BY MT Newswires | ECONOMIC | 09/04/25 08:26 AM EDT08:26 AM EDT, 09/04/2025 (MT Newswires) -- ADP's monthly measure of private payrolls showed a 54,000 increase in August, below expectations compiled by Bloomberg as of 7:30 am ET for an increase of 68,000.
The August gain followed an upwardly revised 106,000 increase in July.
By sector, goods-producing jobs rose by 13,000, led by a 16,000 gain in construction jobs, while service-providing jobs were up 42,000, with leisure and hospitality jobs up 50,000.
"The year started with strong job growth, but that momentum has been whipsawed by uncertainty," said Nela Richardson, chief economist at ADP. "A variety of things could explain the hiring slowdown, including labor shortages, skittish consumers, and AI disruptions."
