10:53 AM EDT, 07/14/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Canada will release manufacturing sales for May at 8:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday, noted RBC.

Canadian manufacturing sales likely dropped again in May -- down 1.3% month over month -- with the largest decreases observed in the oil and coal product subsector, the transportation equipment subsector, and the food product subsector, said the bank. Part of the headline sales decline was price-related, as the Industrial producer price index (price of manufactured goods) dipped 0.5% during the month.

RBC pointed out that the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation will publish housing starts data for June at 8:15 a.m. ET on Tuesday.

The bank looks for Canadian housing starts to come in at 255,000 units in June, down about 9% from the prior month. This decline partially offsets the surge observed at the beginning of this quarter.

In general the bond market is volatile, and fixed income securities carry interest rate risk. (As interest rates rise, bond prices usually fall, and vice versa. This effect is usually more pronounced for longer-term securities.) Fixed income securities also carry inflation risk and credit and default risks for both issuers and counterparties. Unlike individual bonds, most bond funds do not have a maturity date, so avoiding losses caused by price volatility by holding them until maturity is not possible.

Lower-quality debt securities generally offer higher yields, but also involve greater risk of default or price changes due to potential changes in the credit quality of the issuer. Any fixed income security sold or redeemed prior to maturity may be subject to loss.
