MOSCOW, July 7 (Reuters) - The Russian rouble strengthened against the Chinese yuan and traded flat against the U.S. dollar on Monday as the central bank increased its net foreign currency sales by almost a third.

By 1500 GMT, the rouble was flat at 78.70 per U.S. dollar, according to LSEG data based on over-the-counter quotes. The Russian currency is up by about 45% against the dollar since the start of the year.

Against the Chinese yuan, the most traded foreign currency in Russia, the rouble strengthened by 1.1% to 10.84 on the Moscow Stock Exchange. The central bank makes its forex interventions in yuan.

The state's net forex sales, carried by the central bank, rose 31% to an equivalent of 9.76 billion roubles ($9.66 million) a day for the coming month. The central bank says it does not target the exchange rate. ($1 = 78.6955 roubles) (Reporting by Gleb Bryanski; Editing by Alison Williams)

In general the bond market is volatile, and fixed income securities carry interest rate risk. (As interest rates rise, bond prices usually fall, and vice versa. This effect is usually more pronounced for longer-term securities.) Fixed income securities also carry inflation risk and credit and default risks for both issuers and counterparties. Unlike individual bonds, most bond funds do not have a maturity date, so avoiding losses caused by price volatility by holding them until maturity is not possible.

Lower-quality debt securities generally offer higher yields, but also involve greater risk of default or price changes due to potential changes in the credit quality of the issuer. Any fixed income security sold or redeemed prior to maturity may be subject to loss.
