08:43 AM EDT, 07/02/2025 (MT Newswires) -- ADP's monthly measure of private payrolls showed a 33,000 decrease in June, compared with expectations compiled by Bloomberg for an increase of 98,000 jobs.

The June decline followed a downwardly revised 29,000 increase, from the previously reported 37,000 increase, in jobs in May.

By sector, goods-producing jobs increased by 32,000, led by a 15,000 gain in manufacturing jobs, while service-providing jobs fell by 66,000, with professional and business services jobs down 56,000 and education and health services jobs down 52,000, but leisure and hospitality jobs increased by 32,000.

"Though layoffs continue to be rare, a hesitancy to hire and a reluctance to replace departing workers led to job losses last month," said Nela Richardson, chief economist at ADP. "Still, the slowdown in hiring has yet to disrupt pay growth."

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics' nonfarm payrolls data report for June is set for release at 8:30 am ET Thursday.

In general the bond market is volatile, and fixed income securities carry interest rate risk. (As interest rates rise, bond prices usually fall, and vice versa. This effect is usually more pronounced for longer-term securities.) Fixed income securities also carry inflation risk and credit and default risks for both issuers and counterparties. Unlike individual bonds, most bond funds do not have a maturity date, so avoiding losses caused by price volatility by holding them until maturity is not possible.

Lower-quality debt securities generally offer higher yields, but also involve greater risk of default or price changes due to potential changes in the credit quality of the issuer. Any fixed income security sold or redeemed prior to maturity may be subject to loss.
