National Bank On What It Will Be Watching For Next Week
BY MT Newswires | ECONOMIC | 06/27/25 03:50 PM EDT03:50 PM EDT, 06/27/2025 (MT Newswires) -- In Canada, a relatively quiet week will still feature the release Thursday of the merchandise trade balance for May. National Bank said lower energy prices likely continued to impact nominal exports during the month, but added this should have been offset by a partial rebound in other categories. It noted that
several export segments experienced sharp declines in April following the U.S. administration's imposition of tariffs. Meanwhile, National said, imports may have fallen for a fourth consecutive month, judging by preliminary trade data released in the United States. All of this should allow the merchandise trade deficit to narrow from a record high of C$7.14 billion to C$5.00 billion, it added.
National Bank noted some clues on the state of the private sector in June will be available will the release of S&P Global's Composite PMI.
