FHLBank Pittsburgh Announces $8.447 Million in Grants to Help Fight Homelessness

BY Business Wire | AGENCY | 12/11/24 09:30 AM EST

PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh (FHLBank), in conjunction with its housing finance agency partners, announced that $8.447 million in Home4Good grants have been awarded this year to support 95 programs in Delaware, Pennsylvania and West Virginia in the fight against homelessness. FHLBank contributed $6 million to the initiative in 2024, and its partners ? the Delaware State Housing Authority (DSHA), the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA), and the West Virginia Housing Development Fund (WVHDF) ? contributed an additional $2.447 million.

?We are proud to partner with our housing finance agencies, members and community organizations in confronting the ongoing needs in addressing homelessness,? said David G. Paulson, President and CEO, FHLBank. ?In total, FHLBank and our state housing finance agencies have awarded more than $8 million to directly support preventative, intervening and wraparound services that support our communities and people in greatest need.?

Home4Good helps those who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, by providing grants to local homeless services organizations to meet critical community needs. Organizations apply for Home4Good funding across the three states, and applications are supported by FHLBank member institutions. Regional Continuum of Care agencies provide support during the application and selection process.

?At DSHA, we have seen firsthand how life-changing these Home4Good grants are to Delaware families,? said DSHA Director Cynthia Karnai. ?We are excited about this new infusion of funds and hope they empower nonprofits to think creatively about addressing homelessness and leveraging additional resources.?

?Home4Good funding is greatly appreciated in Pennsylvania as it has helped us extend the reach of services to help address homelessness in our state,? said PHFA Executive Director and CEO Robin Wiessmann. ?Providing local Continuum of Care organizations with more funding statewide supports their efforts to help families who are homeless or are struggling to save their housing. Over the past seven years, Home4Good has made a positive difference in Pennsylvania.?

?The West Virginia Housing Development Fund is proud to partner with FHLBank Pittsburgh to facilitate Home4Good,? said WVHDF Executive Director Erica Boggess. ?Since 2018, this partnership has resulted in a total of $8.175 million to support initiatives dedicated to making homelessness in West Virginia rare, brief, and non-recurring. Housing stability is a cornerstone of strong communities, and we thank FHLBank Pittsburgh and the state?s Continuums of Care for their investment in housing accessibility across West Virginia.?

About the Delaware State Housing Authority

The Delaware State Housing Authority (DSHA), formed in 1968, is dedicated to providing quality, affordable housing opportunities and appropriate supportive services to low- and moderate-income Delawareans. In addition to its role as the State's Housing Finance Agency, DSHA is unique in that it also serves as a Public Housing Authority and acts as a Community Development Agency. As a Public Housing Authority, DSHA receives funding from HUD to build, own and operate public housing in Kent and Sussex counties, two of Delaware's three counties. For more information about DSHA, please call (302) 739-4263 or visit destatehousing.com.

About the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency

The Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency works to provide affordable homeownership and rental housing options for older adults, low- and moderate-income families, and people with special housing needs. Through its carefully managed mortgage programs and investments in multifamily housing developments, PHFA also promotes economic development across the state. Since its creation by the legislature in 1972, it has generated more than $18.9 billion of funding for more than 201,500 single-family home mortgage loans, helped fund the construction of 103,328 rental units, distributed approximately $289 million to support local housing initiatives, and saved the homes of more than 50,860 families from foreclosure. PHFA programs and operations are funded primarily by the sale of securities and from fees paid by program users, not by public tax dollars. The agency is governed by a 14-member board.

About the West Virginia Housing Development Fund

The West Virginia Housing Development Fund was established to increase the supply of residential housing for individuals and families of low to moderate income and to provide construction and permanent mortgage financing to public and private housing investors. The West Virginia Housing Development Fund is an Equal Housing Opportunity Lender, NMLS # 198038. For more information, visit www.wvhdf.com.

In general the bond market is volatile, and fixed income securities carry interest rate risk. (As interest rates rise, bond prices usually fall, and vice versa. This effect is usually more pronounced for longer-term securities.) Fixed income securities also carry inflation risk and credit and default risks for both issuers and counterparties. Unlike individual bonds, most bond funds do not have a maturity date, so avoiding losses caused by price volatility by holding them until maturity is not possible.

Lower-quality debt securities generally offer higher yields, but also involve greater risk of default or price changes due to potential changes in the credit quality of the issuer. Any fixed income security sold or redeemed prior to maturity may be subject to loss.

Before investing, consider the funds' investment objectives, risks, charges, and expenses. Contact Fidelity for a prospectus or, if available, a summary prospectus containing this information. Read it carefully.
