BOJ should decide on rate hikes carefully, Jiji cites new economy minister as saying
BY Reuters | ECONOMIC | 10/01/24 04:44 AM EDTTOKYO, Oct 1 (Reuters) - Japan's newly appointed economy minister, Ryosei Akazawa, said on Tuesday that he wanted the Bank of Japan to decide on future rate hikes carefully, according to Jiji news agency.
Akazawa, a close ally of the nation's new prime minister, Shigeru Ishiba, said that a complete exit from deflation was the top priority now and that it was best not to take any action that would cool the economy for a while, Jiji reported.
