Greek current account surplus shrinks in July, imports outpace exports
BY Reuters | ECONOMIC | 09/20/24 04:22 AM EDTATHENS, Sept 20 (Reuters) - Greece's current account surplus shrank in July compared to the same month a year ago as imports outpaced exports, central bank data showed on Friday.
According to the Bank of Greece figures, the current account surplus was 246 million euros ($274.56 million) in July versus a surplus of 847 million euros in the same month a year ago.
Tourism arrivals rose by an annual 4.1%. However, revenue from tourism, which accounts for more than a quarter of Greece's economic output, inched down to 4.03 billion euros from 4.2 billion a year ago.
In the seven months to July, Greece recorded a current account deficit of 8.6 billion euros, up from a deficit of 7.3 billion euros in the same period last year, data showed. ($1 = 0.8960 euros) (Reporting by Angeliki Koutantou Editing by Gareth Jones)
